I was told that vinegar would clean pennies, so I left my hard-earned souvenir pennies in vinegar. I ended up with white marks on my pennies. Help!

That is permanent I think. Try some pure acetone from the hardware store a quick dip and then rinse withclean water and pat dry.

Whoever said vinegar was wrong. Vinegar contains about 5% acid if you check the label. The white marks are corrosion build up, the same effect that happens to your battery terminals on your car after a while.Car batteries contain acid.I would suggest boiling a pot of hot water, then put all the pennies in it for a while. The boiling water should dissolve most or all the corrosion build up. As far as cleaning them, I would try using jewelry cleaner. I hope this helps some.

In the future you should never clean any coins with any cleaner natural or chemical.

It reduces the value of them. I had 25 Silver Dollars that were cleaned by someone. They basically worthless now.

They could of been worth 500 to 5000 dollars and I got $10.00 each.

Good Luck in the future.

This is a bizarre answer perhaps but...!

Secure the pennys to a vise somehow and use a pressure washer on them.

Tarnex is a good restorer for metals. In the future don't leave them in any solution too long or you'll just give yourself headaches.
