I've always suffered from constipation and know a few remedies that I will list for you... but since he is a child, consult with his doctor first... And I know just how he feels, I hate prunes too...

-Cascara Sagrada: A natural herb. I took it every other day and it kept me regular. Find it on the vitamins aisle of any pharmacy.

-Ducosate Sodium (stool softener) : My OB/GYN gave it to me after giving birth to my son to keep me regular just so my episiotomy was not harmed. I bought it at Sam's Club very cheap, or you can buy a few Over the Counter at your favorite pharmacy.

-Metamucil: In the morning with juice...

-Avoid sodas, specially dark ones.

-Bananas always worked for me.

-Mineral Oil to lubricate the intestines

-Prunelax... It comes in pills, teas...etc... again, you can find it at any pharmacy...

Remember to talk to the child's doctor before trying any of these remedies...

Hope this helps ! !

what kind of fruits is he eating??
Bananas bind and can constipate if he eats alot of them.
Do you serve alot of rice at home?
You need to really examine the foods that he is eating and see if perhaps some of the foods that he is eating are what is causing the constipation.
Apples help to move things along. So does apple juice.
Try putting more fiber into his diet and increase his fluid intake (water not soda if you serve it at home)
I would not give a child a laxative.
You can however give him a glycerin suppository if you think he could insert it ( he probably won;t let you do it ) if he is training to have a bowel movement.
Ask you pediatrician for advise as to the stool softener I am not sure if that is appropriate for a child his age.

hope it works out.

Does he take vitamins..... My twin girls get really constipated if I give them vitamins everyday.. Children get plenty of vitamins in fortified foods. So I give my children vitamins about 2-3 times a week(like Mon. Wed. and Fri.) If he is getting to much iron that will make him constipated also.
Also is he eating natural fibers? That will really help.

Enemas are really great and natural, fast acting. Yes there are several softeners out there, and suppositories just for kids. If this is a chronic problem please have your doctor check him out.
