Sport is a mixture of skill and luck and this Italian team are simply the luckiest team ever. In the first game against Ghana, Ghana had two clear penalties not given. Against the USA they were very fortunate not to loose against the Americans who were easily the better team for 70 minutes. In the third game against the Czech Republic, the Czechs had a player sent off far too harshly.
They then got probably the easiest group of 16 draw ever as their reward: against Australia they had to dive in the area to get a undeserved penalty - the celebrations of the Italian players showed they knew it was a cheat. AND THEN! the easiest of Quarter Finals ever against Ukraine who were never going to score if they played for months. They took two hours to score against a weak and inexperienced German defence to get to the final. And the final....well...a second clear penalty not given, Viera!... and who knows what they did to Zidane. In the end they beat one team in normal time fairly - Ukraine

you cant doubt their defense, i think france had the better team. But i will say this and i said it when italy lost to brazil in penalty kicks back in 94 THERE HAS GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY TO DECIDE SUCH AN IMPORTANT GAME OTHER THAN PENALTY KICKS

You certainly picked the right name for yourself except you should have added confused. Are you really in a daze? Italy played well throughout the WHOLE world cup. You are clearly a poor sport french suck. France lost so deal with it. Why are the french people the biggest sucks and crybabies in the world? WAAA WAHHH. Regardless, Italy had to deal with a penalty shot yesterday that wasn't even warranted to Zidane. Also, France could not score a legitimate goal against Portugal but yet again was given an unwarranted penalty shot. It seems that without penalty shots, France would not have made it to the finals. It's too bad you italian haters can't face the fact that the ITALIANS ARE WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS OF 2006 so EAT IT!!!

No, Italy was a talented and motivated team. They had rock-solid defence with a great goalie, an amazing midfield with Totti,Pirlo,Gattuso,and many others, and they also had good strikers like Del Piero and Toni. The Germany team was not weak, they had Klose, Ballack, Lehmann, and other stars on their team. They won because of pure skill and hard work. The penalty wasn't given because they didn't deserve it and they had just gotten a penalty( that was a clear and obvious dive.) The only way France even made it into overtime was because of that penalty. Other than that, they only had one clear chance that they could've scored on, while Italy hit the crossbar and got much closer with their tries. Italy won a well deserved World Cup!

Really ?? Wow !!! Wasn't Italy in the group of death ? Wasn't Italy allow only 2 goals, 1 was an own goal and the 2nd goal came from Zidane's PK for that stupid call from the Ref ? That wasn't a foul . I could go on, but what for ? Cause you haters still have so many excuses to bash Italy .
So you think Brazil 2002 was also lucky to win the Cup ? They were in a group with China, Turkey and Costa Rica . They played Belgium in 2nd round, England in quarterfinal was only a worthy opponent , then beat Turkey in Semi , and went on to beat Germany in the Final . Was Brazil worthy being a Champ in 2002 ? Yes of course , why not ? A Champ is a Champ .

Stop your whining Italy won fair and square. They were the best team on the pitch that day. USA goal was an own goal by an Italian player, France only goal was a penalty kick that barely scored. Buffon was masterful, the defense stingy, what about the calls that should have gone for Italy. Repeat after me-- AZZURRI PER SEMPRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now get over it.

I believe this is the statistics of only one team. If you see performance of all teams you will get similar statistics of other teams as well. This is how the game goes on. Luck is necesaary but you can win a match, but, not World Cup just because of luck, Skill does matter. Italy hasn't been defeated since october 2004. So they played well and got the Cup.

I know.. isnt that just disgusting?? *sigh* now we have to wait 4 more years and hope that there will be better arbitrage and better playing teams.. Oh and to FIFA.. I can highly recommend a 4th refere and allow replay decisions like in american football that the only fair way, too manye players learned the ridiculous habit of diving and other supreme acting skills.. they should leave that upto peeps like brad pitt and johnny depp
