Happiness is being aware of the blessings around you. Freedom from want and distress, consciousness of the good order of things, assurance of one's place in the universe or society, and inner peace.
Things to be happy about:
The fact that you have the ability to smile.
You can give and receive love.
You can make a difference in someone's life, including your own.
And,... thinking about winning the lottery and becoming filthy rich... makes me happy just thinking about it.

Unless you are enlightened, happiness is a temporary state of mind (series of thoughts) that flows from perceived positive internal or external conditions. In other words, happliness is an illusion or delusion. Then again, so are the other emotions.
Self-obsession tends to collapse happiness. Developing compassion for others tends to increase happiness. That activity also tends to get you enlightened. Hmmmm.

Happiness isn't a results of circumstances, extremely happiness is an body of thoughts that prevails in spite of circumstances. Happiness calls for staying power and staying power. One must have staying power to undergo the decrease than pleased reviews and stay satisfied.
