In the beginning they both were about the music but in the early 90s MTV ventured off into the whole reality TV business and because it's success VH1 quickly went down the same path so if your question is which station has better reality TV shows then my answer is VH1.

Neither they both just sell advertisements, they no longer have real shows and they play less music now then they did in the past. They just try to sell ringtones and all sorts of other crap. If I had to choose, I'd say VH1 because atleast they produce some shows - whereas MTV justs buys VH1 shows and airs it on their network.

they both suck! they rarely play music anymore, (wasn't that the purpose?), and the shows are horrible! if i had to pick, i'd say Vh1 because it has the 'i love the 80's' series and *better* reality shows than MTV. (hogan knows best beats next or date my mom.)

i like VH1. they show alot of stuff from the 80s and 90s.

MTV because i like saying MTV more. think of it this way: "hey man i gonna watch MTV" or "hey man im gonna watch Vh1" which would you rather say?

i think mtv is more entertaining but if you are trying to watch something that isnt all a script ( next, room raiders, date my mom, etc.) then you should stick with vh1
