According to a lip reader quoted by ABC news here in Tampa, Materrazzi said, "I hope you and your family die slow deaths." Zidane's mother was supposedly diagnosed as deathly ill and Zidane had just learned of it. Obviously, the italian must have known it as well. Imagine being at the hospital with your mom and some stranger telling them I hope you die slow. I probably would've decked him too.

It is funny how people react with hypocrisy... or maybe they never played a sport at a certain level.... Verbal provocations go on ALL the time in ALL games. Now because a hot tempered and not very smart famous player reacts in a very silly way in the last game of his career, which happened to be also a World Cup final, then everybody screams, whines and squeals. And talking about Zidane's mother near to death, she was interviewed today by journalists and declared that "Materazzi should be castrated! LOL A lot of energy for a terminally ill woman.... Come on guys, come back to reality!

Personally I think he called him a ni**er lover. The day before in the press right wing french politcian( Jean-Marie Le Pen) said that the french team could not win the world cup because they could not be a team with so many black players. A stupid comment which Zidane himself personally reacted to and responded through the media. That was the last big thing in the press leading up to the final. And I think that Materazzi made comments on this matter. We will only truely know when Zidane himself comes forward to F.I.F.A.

well the word out on the street is that he called zidane a 'dirty terrorist' but who knows if thats true. i can just see someone making that up. only zidane and materazzi know the truth. but even if materazzi did say that. that still doesnt make what zidane did right. i lost all respect for zidane after he hit materazzzi. thats was just a cheap shot!

Well, I read in a new article that apparently, Materazzi either insulted his family, or called him a terrorist, which, Zidane said. . .Materazzi said he did nothing of the sort, and said he didn't even know the true meaning of 'terrorist'. . . .But he hasn't been answering to any press, really, so yeah. Zidane doesn't want to talk about it.
