My computer at work was going extremely, insanely, slow...when I was finally able to view the running processes, "system" was @ 100%. Restarted computer, ran in safe mode, virus scans, restored to earlier date, all of no help. Here's the kicker...It only happens when the wireless (usb) adapter is plugged in...Take it out and the computer is perfect. WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS?!?!? Any ideas?!

P.S...when the adapter is plugged in, it is not connected to the network (the router was unplugged).

Well, I have a suggestion but it is by no means all encompassing. When Windows sees a Wireless adapter, it will attempt to connect to any nearby network, if its secure you will have to enter a password, if not, then you will be warned it is unsecure. However, if it can't connect to a network or sees an intermittent network it will continually attempt to repair the connection until it fails or until it sees the network again. If it is going through this cycle then that is the cause. It takes quite a bit of CPU to repair a network connection (at least on older processors).

If that's not the case, I don't have a clue. Check to see if there are other networks in the area that are visible to you. Try disabling the adapter in Device Manger and see what happens. Maybe someone else can help more but that's all I've got. It's a very strange and unusual situation.

Hmm..... there might be a problem with the driver. Uninstall the drivers/software and turn off the computer. Plug in the Wireless USB Device and Turn on your computer. The computer should recognize the device and install the proper driver. If the driver is not found, go to the manu.'s webstie and download the new version of the software and any fixes or patches they have. Install all of the drivers and fixes/patches and restart the computer. You problem should be solved, if not, call up the manu. of the product and ask them.

sounds like either a driver issue or a firmware issue, both should be available at the manufacturer's website

Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)
