I'm looking at a GE water softener made by GE and installed by Home Depot. It's the biggest one and it's a 2 tank system. In my area we have more minerals in the water than chemicals. I understand the the profit margins on those are big. What companies, and brands would you go for? How much would you expect to pay? I've got a 3400 sq. foot house with 4 people. Thanks

You can find a softener price easy enough,. I picked one from Lowes $950 or so. The other part is not to have your hose bibs or lawn sprinklers on that softener system because it won't be good for plants or lawn and will use up more salt. To solve this I trenched from the front to the rear of the house and now back feed the house from that hose bib. Now I have two valves back there one soft one hard. In the front where the supply comes up I put a valve arrangement one for lawn and leave the old valve to be back fed from the softener in the rear so you now have two valves in the front also. When we wash the car there's less spotting . The system is very nice and you'll use about half the soap as before. Check and map out your system before anything to see what has to be done. email if ya like
