Time zones and communism are not related. Russia has several time zones.
Russia is no longer communist since the USSR was dissolved on Dec 1991. It was the largest republic that comprised the USSR. Russia is now a democratic nation. It used to be a monarchy before the Bolshevik communists took over the nation in 1917.

The number of time zones has nothing to do with the economic or political system of a country.
The main characteristics of a communist system of government are 1) state ownership of all land, resources, and industry with a currency that is not publically convertable to other currancies in a free market, 2) only one political party is allowed, 3) they tend to be authoritarian and somewhat isolationists, often being originally formed by strong, ruthless leaders. Historically they tend to have problems with succession of power after the death of a strong leader although some communist countries, like North Korea appeared to have set up a hereditary ruler that reminds one of a king in a poor feudalistic society.
Russia is not a communist country any longer although it does have many people in that country who think of themselves as communists. It will take many years before they will be replaced with younger generations that don't identify with that failed economic system.
That said, it is not correct to say that Russia, or any country for that matter, has a pure capitalistic system. Its economic system does have strong socialist tendencies, but unlike communism it does not advocate a one-party state, at least so far.
Russia is going through a lot of changes, painful changes, and they need positive encouragement to achieve the best for their people. Trying to maintain some sort of cold war adversarial relationship with Russia would not be in the interest of any country, including the USA.

In answer to the second question:
Yes the Pope is a Catholic
And in answer to the first:
No Russia is not communist.
It used to be communist when it was the USSR but the Soviet Union (USSR) collapsed in the early ninties and has since become a federal presidential republic. The last communtist leader was Gorbachev and its first non-communist leader since the Soviet Union's collapse was Yeltsin.
If people think that Russia is communtist then you are a little out of date.
The only current communist/socalist states are:
The People's Republic of China
North Korea
Cuba
Vietnam
Laos
(Socalism is not the same as Communism btw)

No. The United States for example, is one country who enjoys a wonderful democracy. It has three time zones and as you can see, it doesn't have one time. . .zone.
Now, It could not be possible in a huge country like Russia or China to have one time zone. Remember: Russia is not a communist country. It is a socio-democratic country. China is planning to revamp democracy. . .or so they say.

It's amazing how many answers are saying that they used to be Communist and now are a Democracy.
That's apples and oranges.
Economically, they were never truly communist, they were socialist. When the iron curtain fell, they began their rough change to a CAPITALISTIC economic system. The change has been difficult, but it has been effective and is making a difference in their economy. There are many, though, who want to return to the socialist economic system and are still trying to change it back.
The government system in Russia, now, is a Democratic Republic, much like the United States, but as the Soviet Union, it had been a Dictatorship.

It USED to be a state socialist country, masquerading as a communist country. It hasn't technically been that since around 1992. It has moer than one time zone because it is a great huge place!
