Some breastfed babies *never* need to be burped. As long as she seems okay after nursing, don't worry about it.

if you pat their back for more than a minute or two and you are patting hard enough she should burp, but if she doesn't, she may not need to. not all babies burp every time they eat. just keep some infant gas drops on hand just in case the burp wants to come out the other end and she is having difficulty. just be sure they are INFANT gas drops and thay are safe for babies her age. they really do help.

Well I would burp try burping her for another 10 minutes if still with no success and she's not fussy she may not have any gas. Try different burping positions over the shoulder, balancing on your knee while patting his/her back, lay them over your legs, or bounce a little while you walk, hold over your shoulder burping.

Try changing positions...my kids usually did the over the shoulder thing. Most of the time that worked. Sometimes, however, when that didnt work, we changed to the sitting on the lap holding the head while patting the back...that usually did the trick..

You should only pat her back (gently) for a minute or so. If she doesn't burp after that, lie her down for a minute or two to let things settle, then pick her up again to a sitting position. Chances are, she'll probably burp herself. :)

My daughter hardly ever burped. Only if your newborn is crying hard should you really worry. If she does cry, it probably is gas. Give her some Mylicon or some other anti gas medicine and burp again. Also, our daughter farted a lot instead of burping. I guess it was still getting the gas out! :)

She may not have too much gas. She will burp if she does. I say if she does not burp in a couple minutes than let her be. My son rarely burps when I want him too, he's on his own schedule in everything. It's ok if she doesn't burp, don't worry too much.

Change the position of your baby. Lay you baby on your lap and simply massage your baby's back you don't always have to pat, changing the position most of the time works.

Burping can be achieved several different ways:
Æá Place your palm around the baby's chest, with your fingers straddling her chin. You may support her bum on your knees, but allow her weight to be supported only by your hand. Use your other hand to gently pat her back with a cupped hand.
Æá Put your baby high on your shoulder, with her head and arms freely dangling over your shoulder. Hold on tightly to her legs so she cannot wiggle away and use your other hand to gently pat her back.
Æá In a sitting position, put your baby over your thigh, supporting her upper chest and head with one hand and hooking her feet between your legs. Use your cupped hand to gently pat her back.
Æá Cradle your baby in your arms with her bum in your hands. Wrap one arm and leg around your arm, facing her away from you. Use your other hand to pat her gently.
