Wether true or not the idea of people jumping effecting the Earht's orbit is extremely bad science. Their are days for everything now though so it wouldn't be surprising if someone was trying to organise this. There is of course a huge problem however in co-ordinating such an event given the difference in not only actual time between places but also peoples perception of what that time is. For instance... if you are trying to make everybody in a certain hemisphere jump at the same time - this requires precision. To prove this sin't possible tyr this instead. Get everybody in a room to jump at the same time each first using their own watches or phones etc.... without syncronising them (as in the real situation this wont be happening)... I bet you couldn't even organise a symultaneous jump of 20 people this way... let alone several hundred thousand!!

World Jump Day is the first global flash mob event scheduled for July 20, 2006 at 10:39:13 or 11:39.13 GMT, at which time the organization plans to have 600 million people from the western hemisphere jump simultaneously (currently the site claims that there are 589,596,451 registered jumpers as of July 10, 2006; according to World Stats, this would be almost 50% of all internet users). They claim this will move the Earth out of its current orbit, and into a new one, one that will not cause global warming. The site is an art installation, and in no way serious.

This is a worrying concept. If an unknown amount of people jump then the Earth will move an unknown distance, I do believe it to be bollox as you say but now feel I shoud start a "Don't Jump " campaign to avert world disaster. Come on help me save the world!!

If you read the wikipedia page cited above, you will see that no matter how many people jump at the same time, it won't affect the earth's orbit. Nothing to worry about. I don't doubt that there are possibly hundreds of thousands of people planning to jump, but it won't have any effect and wouldn't have any effect even if they could all orchestrate it precisely and jump at exactly the same moment.
I think the greatest consequence, positive or negative, that this activity could have is a whole lot of people with sore feet.
