Its a very boring answer unfortunately. Sorry. Its to do with the types of nerves that carry itch pain and scratch pain. The itch is carried by one type of pain fibre, and is irritating rather than painful. The scratch pain is a different type of nerve fibre, perceived as more important than the itch pain, so when you scratch you create a stronger pain. This pain overpowers the itch pain, making it go away. Honest...

if it is just an itch when you scratch, it takes off a very very minute layer of the nerve that causes the itch. By taking off this layer the itch stops. However if the itch is caused by a rash or abrasion or spot etc then scratching will inflame the already damaged area and make it worse. Simple eh!!

Usually, but I hate the itches that itch even more (and the more you scratch them, the more they itch) when I scratch them!

coz you scratch it, nw im itchy thinkin about it!!!! dont you just hate an itch that you cant find!! think someody told me its on the inside, thats why you cant scratch it
