I had a daughter and My girlfriend and I named her my last name. This is the traditional way of doing things here. One day if her mother and I marry then we dont have to confuse her with the name change!

If you are married use the last name you share as a couple.
If you are not married use the mothers last name.

Both of my sons last names are the same as mine and my husbands. I guess it is up to you, but my opinion is the fathers.

My son has my last name, but my nephew has both his mother's and father's last name, hyphenated. I guess it depends on what you want to do.

My daughter's last name is mine, I was unwed and I carried her for 41 weeks. Why should I give her someone else's last name?
