A term is considered... Fall Term and Spring Term, depending on how you do your schooling there is also a Summer Term usually slpit into 2 or 3 different sessions.

OK, so most of your answerers are basically right, but kinda unclear. You have two types of terms at most schools. Either they are on the "quarter system", in which case there are 4 quarters per year, and most people attend for 3 quarters and take the summer off; or they're on the "semester system" which has a Fall Semester and a Spring Semester, plus again, an optional summer term. You'll need to check with the school you've applied to if you want to find out what their system is. If it's quarters, it will be 3 times whatever, and if its semesters it will be 2 times whatever.

It can be one of three things depending on the school itself. Some schools use Semesters, others Quarters, and a couple use Trimesters.

What's the difference? Well the length of time per session for one. Another is how many credits they're worth. For example, if I have 15 semester hours and you have 15 quarter hours worth of instruction, my 15 semester is more. Why? Because sememsters are longer than quarters so I get more time per session than you do.

So basically, term is the school breaks the amount of instructional time per learning session.
