Its a stereo type that has perpetuated over the last 200 or so years because people like to make fun of the British. It originated because the British being the wealth world controlling nation they where had access to sugar which they would eat excessively, where as other peoples including the people producing the sugar had no access to sugar, which as we all know cause major tooth decay. For instance, the children of the prisoners and guards who were sent to Australia all had perfectly white teeth where as their parents did not, simply because there was no sugar cane on the continent. Austin Powers having bad teeth is just an exaggeration like every other joke in that movie.

It was a fad in the 1950s. I was born in Scotland and I know that not all British people have horrible teeth. It's just a stereo-type that Austin Powers made larger.

I think it's because a lot of American's take extra special care of there teeth, use whittener more than we do and will have braces to correct much smaller problems than we would. As for the beer they may be refering to Bitter which we are famous for which is often served at room temperature. And many pubs really can't pour pints (of lager) over here, so we end up drinking horrible warm flat pints for far too much money. American lager is shite though - it tastes too weak

As Americans we have access to great things such as health and dental insurance which many countries do not have.

Dental and medical health is very expensive overseas and many employers do not offer such benefits to their employees.

Since it is so expensive to have dental work, also considder the fact that the cost of living is twice as expensive (or more) as it is here, it is pretty hard to maintain healthy teeth.

yes some Brits have bad teeth, 'so what'? the Brits aren't as vain as us Yank and they don't spend 10 or 15,000 pounds at the orthodontist.Leave the Brits and their teeth alone and don't forget that the Brits are our cousins over there across the pond.
