I have a couple songs of his- his cover of 'Across the Universe', 'Hallelujah', and 'The Maker Makes' from Brokeback Mountain- and this he has such a beautiful voice, and wanted to know which albums and/or specific songs anyone could recommend to me as his best songs and ones a person should start off listening to.

I quite like Poses, which is an album of his....all the songs on it are really nice. Hallelujah is lovely, but I still think Jeff Buckley covered it best (if you haven't heard his version of it, get it!)
Also, Antony and the Johnsons featured Rufus on the album "I am a Bird Now," he has a nice track called "What can I do."

I don't really like his later work at all.

I had to respond to your question, as I love Rufus Wrainwright also. His voice is amazing, so soothing and rich. I'd suggest you go to Rhapsody or some music engine and put in his name, and see what they pop up with. You can hear at least 30 seconds of alot of his music. I have Rhapsody Plus, so I can hear full albums. Once I decide what I like, then I can buy it. But you can download the entire album without paying for it. Well, you need to subscribe to Rhapsody, first. But it's worth it.
