Have you contacted him to see when you might be scheduled? Could be a scheduling misunderstanding.

Of course, the first recourse you have is to pay the contractor AFTER the work is done. This is usual and customary in the tree-trimming business and with most other contractors of all sorts.

At this point, small claims court and a call to your BBB to lodge a complaint or if your local news media has a Watchdog or Consumer Advocate, that might be another route. Good luck.

How long ago did you contract him?

If it's one week, call him. Maybe he can give you an exact date of when he'll come do it. You should've gotten it in writing, it's a service afterall, and you paid for it. If it is in writing, you can inform him that he either has to fulfill his part of the contract or you have grounds to sue him. Just the threat of suing will usually work.

Slash his tires...court won't work. Even if you win the case no one makes him pay.

Don't pay in advance...pay when they're done. If a contractor won't agree to that don't do business with them.

Call him in and get him arrested or take him to court. Taking money for an unfulfilled job is against the law.
