"johncharles"...i see your point .. but i just cant do it [ i o u a beer when we meet in nha trang]
!st off stay at the "dong phuong" on nguyen thien thuat street. get up early one morning and go down to the beach[ 4-5am] stay for a cpl of hrs then you can go back to bed if you must[ take your camera] on the other end of the spectrum spend an "all nighter at the sailing club"[ you'll find it just fine]. right outside the dong phuong you will find reliable motor bike drivers who will take you to see "the big budda" [ chua lon son]. the old cham temple[ po nagar] and hon chom point[ dont swim there unless you are a champ] but a good place for a pick nic. take an afternoon to do that. pay your driver $7us. maybe on another day have a driver take you to be ho [ 3 lakes.. there are no lakes] the ride there is very scenic and you can swim in cool swimming holes. often you can take tours to all these places but a driver can often recommened other places you might enjoi. you might want to lunch at villa bao dai[ get the big grilled shrimp].motor bike there about 10,000vn [ .70us] resorts, theres one on hon tre island[ never been there ] its expensive... and the anna mandara right on the beach at nha trang [ about $150 a night for a room].. i think you can just go and use the pool and tennis courts for a day fee...... if you need more , just holler!....oh yeah if you just want to hang out and "chill" go down to "nghia beer hoi" on huong vuong street [ just around the corner fron your hotel] you can meet good folk there, and if you like italian food right across the street is "marrianellas"[ say hi for me]... a little further down the street on the corner of biet thu street and huong vuong is the best place to "e"mail and at night[ open all night] after partying at the sailing club, is a great place to get soup or "pho" before you turn in.
... oh and "johmcharles" anit half wrong.. there was a woman who was hung by her neck from a tree there not too long ago... but she ask for it ....she messed w/ the wrong people.. pick your friends carefully...

Nha Trang is a wonderful vacation spot that often gets overlooked by prospective tourists. Many visitors to the area spend their time in Saigon and the greater Ho Chi Minh area, but Nha Trang is a quieter and at times more interesting location. The nightlife is much more subdued than the other regions in Vietnam, but this is often a good thing. The restaurants serve up some of the most delicious cuisine in the country, and the prices are always reasonable. The scenery is beautiful, and there are a number of historical sights that remain amazing works of architecture even though they are centuries old. Nha Trang is an ancient city, giving it an authentic and nostalgic feel that you will certainly appreciate. The Po Ngar Cham Towers are tremendous, and the beaches and outdoor activities along the coastline of the city are fabulous. Diving is enormously popular in Nha Trang, and Hon Mieu is an island that is a short boat trip from the port.

A small city that is filled with culture, Nha Trang is home to around 300,000 inhabitants. The surfing and beach life here make it a very desirable location, and often times visitors never want to leave. The most active area of Nha Trang is Tran Phu Street, where you can find the majority of the best restaurants and activities. As expected, the best towers and architectural highlights are off the beaten path a bit. The Po Ngar Temple is the best site in Nha Trang, and it really gives you a glimpse into the history and heritage of this ancient city. There is plenty else to do in Nha Trang that will ensure you have a remarkably enjoyable time.

bargain and rent a boat for a day to go to those fisherman villages out in those little islets, eat fresh seafoods on the boats, check out those willow mountains and then scuba diving in the clear water of those little islets but you must learn to bargain. Stay close to the beach, go out with groups near bright street scenes.
