mononucleosis is a virus and it has varying degrees of severity.. I have seen people with mono only be very tired and other cases where they are hospitalized with dehydration and severe hepatitis (inflamation of the liver)... the symptoms of mono can be severe and if not treated can absolutely kill you... I hope this helps you. Antibiotics will do nothing for mono as it is not a bacterial infection.. However if a bacterial infection develops secondary to mono, then it needs to be treated, but it will not help get over the mono itself.

yes it can kill you if not treated properly with antibiotics
