The clue is "add all the numbers" but it isn't just the spelled out numbers. I remember seeing something else on this question. The key was to figure out all the numbers used in the equation and it included the embedded roman numerals:
sIXty pLus one tIMes two pLus nIne.
So if I were to add up all the numbers:
60 + 1 + 2 + 9 + IX(9) + L(50) + IM(999) + L(50) + I(1) = 1182
I don't know if this is the answer, but whatever it is, it's a trick and adding and roman numerals was involved. It might also involve finding all the combinations of numbers that could be generated and add those too. Then you have to worry about precedence of operators, etc. And is 'six' part of 'sixty'? What about e being 2.71828183...?
In my mind it is a poorly defined question and isn't worth answering... so what is the answer, by the way?

Looking at it the way you wrote it, 60 + 1 x 2 + 9, the answer is definitely 71 and here's why.
In math, there's something called the order of operations, which tells you in what order to do the math. At the very top is parentheses, which we don't have here.
According to the order of operations, you do any multiplication or division BEFORE any adding or subtracting.
Thus, you'd have to first, multiply 1 x 2 giving you 2, and then take this and add the 60 and 9. Taking 2 + 69 gives you 71,

How about this?
60 + 1 = 61
2 + 9 = 11
61 x 11 = 671

60 + 1 * 2 + 9 (first multiply 1 and 2)
= 60 + 2 + 9 (now add)
= 71
It's 71 unless there were parentheses.
The way it is written now, the correct answer is 71
Using order of operations, you have to do the multiplication first, then the addition.
