Is she like in Mariah Carey status ontop of the world or like Britney Spears? Once ontop but not now?

She started like the Britney Spears type, but when her first single was out (Automatic (?) in 1997 or 98 I think), Britney was still preparing her debut release. Nowadays Utada Hikaru would be like Mariah Carey, and rival Ayumi Hamasaki is Japan's Madonna.
However, both have suffered some minor slump in their popularity recently.
In case you're not aware, Utada released her 1st english album last year under the name "Utada", I saw the album and singles in the record store. Of course if you're asian and release english album, not many general public will pay attention to it.

yep she';s like the jap-mariah carey, i think she;s still on top, not sure too, i hav to ask my jap friends.
