Can someone explain the movie title: "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar."?

Can someone explain this movie title to me?

I've never seen the movie but the title always leaves me scratching my head. Who the heck is Wong Foo? I know Julie Newmar used to be the old "Cat Women" from Batman right?

The title of the movie came from an autographed picture of Julie Newmar that Douglas Carter Beane(the writer of the movie) saw on the wall of a Times Square Chinese restaurant, the China Bowl, in the mid 1980s.

I was thinking it had something to do with an autographed picture, but double-checked for ya. I guess Wong Foo worked at a restaurant Julie Newmar liked?

In the movie there is a picture in a restaurant I think...that Julie Newmar autographed for some guy called Wong Foo....thats it. The movie is pretty good to it has drag queens in it but is funny and good Patrick Swayze makes a pretty good woman LOL so does the guy from blade I cant remeber his name but anyway I like the movie you should watch it.

It's a pretty good movie. The title does not make any sense. Patrick Swayze makes a pretty good looking drag queen. On the other hand Wesley Snipes makes for a truly ugly and I mean ugly drag queen. It's an interesting movie.

I thought Wesley Snipes was hysterical in drag with his big bycepts in that sundress trying to look like he belonged, John Leguizamo was great, making Patrick Swayze the old mother hen. It was funny. But, I like Wesley the best.

I can see the others have already answered your question, but you've got to see the movie. Patrick Swayze as you've never seen him before....in drag! John Leguizamo is halarious! And Wesley Snipes makes one ugly drag queen!

the movie is about drag queens and she is the person who made it easier for drag queens to do what they do, its a great movie with patrick swazy and welsy snipes and others
