Some people are freaked out because they think that just because you dress different you are wierd and maybe capable of hurting them, what they dont realize is that people who dress like that are just trying to find themselves or dont want people to think they are pretty. They tend to have self issues that they dont realize they have, but they are still people and instead of going to a shrink they are dealing with their inner problems in a different way and their is absolutely nothing wrong with that. No, you're absolutely correct. You are not goth or gothic. You don't listen to a single gothic band. It helps if you think of "goth" as a synonym for "gothic music fan". If you are not a fan of gothic music, than no matter what anyone else says, you can not POSSIBLY be a goth. If you'd like to be a goth, I suggest you give the music and subculture a good look before you jump in. It might just not be for you. Maybe you're more pop-punk. That's just fine. You also need to keep in mind that being accepted as a "goth" may not win the attentions of your "bad boys"--if they ARE goths, they'll probably just call you a poser for changing who you are to get them to like you...that's always a bad idea.

Some people are not used to the fact that other people are different from them. I think some people get mad that those type of people like goths or punks stand out alot more than they do and they get more attention. They are not used to seeing piercings, colored hair or someone that dresses in black every day. Most of my friends are goths and punks and I grew up with these type of people so I am used to it. The majority of these type of people are usually the most generous and loving people I ever met.

I, for one, am "one of those people" that will cross the street if i see a group of "punks" riding bicycles too small for them and tossing around bad language. Outside, in a store, in the mall, society today is very, well, "set," you can wear different styles, but theres a style that is "not set" and that is the punk-gothic look.
HOW YOU DRESS IS MIRRORING YOUR INSIDE!
Young pre-teens or even older teenagers, mixed up, c onfused on society and life, wear anything and everything to BREAK the "set" of society! Modest dressing shows a modest inner person, and that is quite a virtue- notice, if you work for a top-notch accounting company, or any form of "real life" work, do they let you in wearing a teeny tank top and a mini skirt? Or a cap backwords and XXXXL pants? NO. Because when you are dressed neatly, fresh and crisp, with long-sleeves and knee-covers, you look respectable to the world, that you are calm and frim in yourself. Seeing those punks tells the person right away they could spell danger, or just a person of higher person doesn't want to associate with people who are undergoing trouble times, that moight even prove dangerous. Please listen, this is so true!

To the lady above me, just because you say it's true, does not make your OPINION the right one. I wear black every day. I have piercings. I listen to metal. That does not make me goth. Goth is a culture, a lifestyle. It's not how you look. To all of the people that are scared of me becuase of how I look, grow up. People are different. Yes, we stand out. Thats why we do it. Becuase we don't want to blend in with all of you close minded people. We are people too. We are very kind people too. But you don't see that because you are too busy judging us by our appearance. Society has "them" brain-washed.

People think that "bad" kids usually dress like that, and so are scared they will get beat up or something by them.
Some people also think goths are vampires, which is pretty stupid.
I'm personally not scared of them, I think they are cool.

no clue,but my guess is that the media portrays them as bad people because a fraction of them then to be social ills and the media then stereotypes them as bad,dangerous,crazy and so on.
personally,i like the punk look.i find it cool.

Since THEY don't have the guts to be themselves and have always conformed to "socieities standards" anyone who can stand up and be themselves threatens them. After all, how could anyone have the strength to "put themselves out for ridicule and abuse if they didn't have to?"

People are judgmental.
I don't have a problem with any certain style of clothing or music.
