As someone else said how do you know he's really 20 and not some middle aged pervert? I would never get that close with anyone on a chatroom. It's dangerous territory. If there's any way he can prove his real age then I would tell him you're 16 because 4 years is no big deal and you're not a minor so just be honest.

I have to agree with everyone else. You should be honest. and maybe he is lying too. To be honest, either your really mature or this guy is lying. because most 20 year olds can catch on by the way a person talks how young they are. Or maybe he thinks your a really immature 18 year old.
Either way be honest, and be careful. Also if he is only 20, and you do care about him, care enough not to be jail bait.

If you are lying you should be able to figure out that almost everyone else is, too. How do you know he's not a 40 year old pervert with a long history of crimes against little girls? Listen to your parents when they tell you not to talk to strangers. You could be in more trouble than you could ever imagine.

You should tell him the truth and explain to him why you lied. If you are really just friends and nothing more, and he's an overall nice guy, I'm sure he'll forgive and forget. If there's more going on, though, he may be quite upset to learn that you're "jailbait." In which case, you should just forget him and move on.

if u tell him the truth now. tell him that ur sorry, and u explain why u did it. then if he truly liked u, he will understand. if not, he probably wasn't worth it in the first place.

for future reference though, don't lie, and be careful on chat sites. some people lie much more than putting 2 years onto their age.

Just tell him that when you first met him you lied about your age, and you were just playing around, trying to find someone to talk to and you didn't know it was going to get serious. Now if he's a true friend he will understand, but if he snaps then you're better off leaving him alone

You need to tell him the truth. If he will still be your friend is up to him. When ever you lie there are consequences, and in this case it may mean losing a friend over it. To keep lying will guarantee though that you will lose a friend over it.

You should never lie. If you are going to "pretend" to be someone else on the computer then you need to stick to it or fess up if it becomes something then just pretending. Tell him the truth, if he doesn't stay then you lived and learned and wont do it again!

If you really value him as your friend, tell him the truth. Because if you don't and hypothetically something were to happen, he could be criminally charged, and that would he would have a record for the rest of his life.
