umm ... for what??
you could use radar
or you could drop a rope down, find where the rope stopped going under, then measure the rope
i think i'm missing the whole point of this question .. lol

You do not need the depth of the lake. Only how deep the fish are swimming. The warmer the water the deeper the fish as a rule of thumb.

using a float to manage the depth of the bait is as old as fishing itself. Try different depths until a strike is made, then fish for fun and prizes.

How about using a lead weight on a piece of line? Other than that, there is no way to find out this info, unless you consult a topo map before hand.

Maps usually have that info, plus the county in which the lake is in should be able to tell you.

A long rope and a weight. row out to the middle and measure it. it's called "sounding".
