anything like pendants, sculptures and how to clean them and still keep thier color?

my son just went to vacation bible school and they made a mirror craft with sea shells. they took a piece of cardboard (you could use real wood) and glued a square mirror in the middle. then they glued sea shells around the outside and spraypainted the whole thing. then they attached a piece of string to the back so the kids could hang the mirror up. it was a really cute idea.

Here is a whole page of ideas on what to do with sea shells from About.com (1st link), and how to clean them (2nd link); if you want them to keep their color permanently, I used to spray mine with gloss fixative (3rd link - in the art section of a craft store) for big one, or paint with clear nailpolish (tedious!!!) for smaller ones.
