Im looking for a site the will show me exactly what strings to play. i dont know any chords. i would really like to find a site that shows how to play popular songs with just playing one string at a time. i like to pluck my guitar with just one string at a time, no chords. I know a few songs with chords that were taught to me from friends.

Well, you can get tabs from lots of sites. I prefer powertabs.net

However........
.......if you are just learning guitar, those sites won't do a whole lot of good. You should probably sign up to take lessons. A website will not show you how to properly hold a chord. A website cannot tell you what you are doing wrong. Most importantly, you can't watch a website play a chord.
Lessons are where it's at. You learn the basic chords and notes. THEN you apply what you've learned there and hit up all the websites for tabs.

Congratulations on getting started. I am a self taught guitarist myself and I've been in several bands and play out all the time. Here are three things that will get you started... 1. Go on the internet and look up chord charts and learn how to play some chords. Practice them. especially switching between them. While you are at, learn how to read guitar tabs. Its like reading music only WAAAAY easier. 2. Pick some songs you like (easy ones) and learn how to play them by finding the chord progressions online. If its songs you like youll practice more so dont buy a book just find the exact songs you like and learn them from the internet. Youtube has TONS of tutorials so check it out. 3. learn the minor pentatonic and blues scales. Once you learn them practice them. every day, 20 min, practice the scales. If you do this, and practice at least 15 min a day (more is better, but every day is better then twice a week for an extended period) you will learn way faster then you think.

go from the other direction: think of easy songs that have that kind of guitar line, and then find the tab for them. Any tab site is going to have complex tab for complex songs, and easy tab for easy songs.

Try some Led Zeppelin for instance. They do a lot of songs that have licks without chords.

It's a shame mxtabs.net closed down, they closed down because the tabs were so accurate, people suspected the tabs were being copied from books. That was the best site for tabs. Go to www.ultimate-guitar.com - next best thing. Led Zeppelin is one of the hardest bands to play, advice: don't start off with them.
