What do you hear when you listen to this song. I have seen 2 different sets of lyrics for this song since no one knows the lyrics and it is getting on my f***ing nerves. I can swear I hear him saying somethin' 'bout a woman with a drink, but my friend said she heard somethin' 'bout a boat. What do ya think?

The original song by Richard Berry was a calypso song and basically was about a seaman talking to a bartender (Louie). He was telling Louie about the girl waiting for him in his home of Jamaica....."me see Jamaica moon above..."

In 1962, a group out of the Pacific Northwest, the Kingsmen took the song, slurred the lyrics and everyone thought it was dirty....it even got so far as to have members of Congress calling for an investigation into dirty song lyrics which makes me wonder where they are now and if they've heard any of the rap stuff out there?

But, the original meaning of the Richard Berry song as stated before, is just about a sailor who is looking forward to going home to Jamaica to see his girlfriend...."Louie, Louie, me gotta go now...."

Excellent question!

There are two sets of lyrics for the song Louis Louis and they are completely different. However, unless you're specifically interested in the WRITTEN lyrics it doesn't matter much

The song was released in November of 1963 and what all the way to #2 where it stayed for six weeks . There was considerable controversy about the lyrics even then . Many years later the lead singer for the band, said he was so bombed at the time that he has no idea what lyrics he actually sang.

Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go

Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home

CHORUS

Three nights and days I sail the sea
Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.

CHORUS

Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!

GUITAR SOLO

See Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again

CHORUS

Let's take it on outa here now
Let's go!!
