I just purchased a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows XP Home Edition. I recently learned that the college I am planning on attending only supports Windows XP Professional. Is there a way I can upgrade before my compter ships? If I cannot, can I purchase the software seperately once I recieve my computer? Will I loose all of my information if I switch Windows editions?
Thanks for your help! I feel like I made a HUGE mistake!

Just purchase an upgrade to XP Pro CD, which is A LOT more cheaper than buying the installation version. You can buy it cheap on ebay.
If they havent sent your computer yet, you might be able to change that option. Normally Dell sends you an email when they have shipped your computer. Try calling them and see if you can change your Windows option.

If it hasn't shipped yet, call Dell to see if they can amend the order. They'll charge you an upgrade fee for XP Professional.
If not, you're stuck having to purchase an XP Professional upgrade disc. You will be able to upgrade your OS without losing any of your personal data.

You can upgrade your computer to Professional edition, once it gets to you. You can purchase professional edition on microsoft.com.If u have a dvd drive you should save all your information on cds, and once you purchase professional, add your info. to the computer with the new program.

dont worry pal. just purchase the software u want to upgrade and then install it , it would then ask u
new installation or upgrade.
simply select upgrade option
and its done

just go and buy the Professional edition from any local computer/electronics store, and when you get the computer, install it before you do anything else. then, you wont lose any of your information!

now that you´ve bought it you can´t upgrade it before it arrives.
once it arives you will be able to buy an upgrade to xp pro
