If so, how much would it cost? And after buying it could you go there anytime you want?

No, the moon is not a purchasable tract of land. To the best of my knowledge, no person/group has ever made a claim to posess rights to the moon. However, as the USA was the first nation to land there, they would have the same rights as the British, French or Spanish would have had historically. By being the first to land there, they may, (technically) have the right to "colonize" the land. But it could also be treated as the oceans are on Earth, as International bodies governed with laws created by groups of nations to protect everyones interests. That may be the better question, "Is the moon owned by any nations, or are there any laws governing its use."

No you can't buy it. Someone has to own it for you to buy it from them. The moon is yet public domain and you can visit it any time you want to right now, no one could stop you. Here's the problem, space flight is as yet restricted on this planet. You can go anywhere in the universe you want...problem is we won't let you leave. It's pretty much the same as the way the Americas were in the 1500's, whoever got here first owned what they wished...provided they had the means to keep it. :-) The only difference was there was nothing but money that kept private parties from venturing off to the new world, if you could afford it best of luck. Not so with interstellar travel.

You could buy the moon from anyone who wants to claim it is theirs. However, since there are no nations at this time who would recognize the claim, I doubt that you would ever get a clear deed to the moon. If you had enough money to support your own space program you could go there whenever you wanted. Buying the moon is a lot like people who pay to have stars named after them. This is another rip-off. No one has control over the naming of stars like that. Stars are given nice names like RR72 or whatever. I forget the actual lettering and numbering system now.

I would be willing to sell you the moon. Cheap.

thats an old joke
like selling the brooklyn bridge

who would you buy it from?

and if you did own it, how would you get there?

Someday, the moon may be parceled up by whatever would pass for governments at the time and property rights could end up in individuals hands and then you could buy some (or maybe all) of the moon

Don't hold your breath (unless of course you are visiting your property on the moon).

The whole moon ....NO....
but you can buy a chunk of it..... you can buy a LOT... from lunarembassy or the lunarregistry. Companies which have been set up and sell LOTS at MOON, MARS, and VENUS

YOU CAN also make a claim to own a galaxy or a nebula or any other celestial body (with option that hasn't been claimed by someone else) through Archimedes Space Law Institute .

GOOD LUCK

I dont think you can buy the moon b/c nobody owns it! If you could, I'm sure there isn't enough money in the world to buy it and even if you got passed that barrier, the moon isn't habitable so you most likely couldn't go there any time you wanted. Why did you ask?

No. The moons and planets cannot be owned or sold. The U.N. I believe was the organization that set a treaty that no country could own it. But, like the oceans, they are able to be exploited by those that are capable of going there.

In the distant future where colonies might occur, I would think it is possible that land might be sold, requiring the treaty to be revisited.

The moon is sorta like Antarctica...nobody owns it. People just sorta go there but it's not like it's under any flag or ownership.

To claim it, I suppose you'd have to establish a base of some kind...that would probably cost trillions of dollars...and we don't have the technology for it yet.

sorry, but the moon's a long ways off from being owned.

There was a company a few years back that started selling plots on the moon. It's debunked now.
