Yes I know they have backups; that's not the point! What if there suddenly was no currency in anyone's pocket, anyone's bank balance, anyone's stash of gold? All gone. Backups is cheating. And yes I know you're happy that your mortgage vanished with it, but how are you gonna buy food?

There would be chaos for many - especially in urban areas. Some would begin bartering items they have with people willing to trade. Those with abilities would begin to barter their trades/services to people in return for items. More than likely, we would return to larger family units for protection as well. People with no truly useful skills or minimal skills would likely fall to the bottom rung of society and end up selling themselves or their families in to slavery in return for basic necessities. However, at some point, people would begin again creating a medium of exchange and an economy would eventually build up again.

Is the money we have now even real?? Its not backed by anything. For the most part its just a bunch of numbers on computer systems. What really determines its value? This seems like a silly question but some great economic journalist are stumped. The way things are going you might get a real answer not a hypothetical one. Invest while people think money has value and buy gold, guns, and bullets

If all the money disappeared, you wouldn't need it any more. You would buy food by swapping stuff. I mean, if there was no money whatsoever, all the shopkeepers and everything would not try to get it. Well there would be a lot of money-lovers who would be going round in circle wondering what to do but I think intelligent people would be able to get the things they wanted. That would make a chsnge from those who are just lucky or born with their nose in the air!

It's a bit of a communist idea, that, but I'll play along. People would start trading in groceries and jewellry until a monetary system returned.

Dear,dear wild eep :
money icludes posessions and belongings, so if these vanished we would do so before them.
IF only banknotes disappeared, life would continue but a new scrooge would have been added to our ailments ( wars, famines, floods, earthquakes, global injustice etc, etc, etc)
LET US SOLVE THESE FIRST AND THEN DESTROY ALL OUR BANKNOTES!!!!!!!!!!!
