There is a flap in the tail pipe that is regulated by a fuse. When the Rpm's reach 3500 the flap closes and the exhaust then sounds awsome. Below 3500 rpm's the sound is very tame. I would like to know how to keep flap closed at all times to improve the sound at lower speeds and rpm's. When at idle the car is very quite as it is now.....It only sounds good at higher rpm's and I wish to change that if possible. Do you know how to do this? I ask at the dealer and was told by them that there is a fuse that controlls that but said removing the fuse would also have an effect on what ever else it may controll. Help! Where is that fuse?
thanks
bob

Hi Bob...I am a fellow Vette owner. The flap isn't "regulated" by the fuse; it's regulated most likely by a chip in the ECM...the fuse is there in case something gets in there and jams the flap- that way the fuse blows and it isn't damaging itself trying to open/close on a piece of debris. The flap's there for a good reason... below 3500 RPM it needs to be open to keep the back pressure at an optimum level. If it's closed (or open)all the time, your performance will suffer...big.

If you want a throatier sound, I'd suggest a good quality aftermarket exhaust like a Borla exhaust; I'm not sure if Flowmaster has anything for an "06 ZO6 yet...but ask a parts store on this to be sure. You can also go to either Mid America or Corvette Central's web sites and see a selection of some high perf exhaust systems. Don't start pulling fuses or you could potentially damage something, and I advise against drilling holes in your brand new Z06 exhaust... it's illegal in many states, for starters...and frankly I like the way the new ones sound in their stock configuration...but, to each his own.

Hope this helped.

I doubt that taking the fuse out will help you, and in fact will probably make it so it won't open at all, since no power will be going to the flap. You need to find the wire that controls the flap and connect it to a power source that is always turned on, such as something that is only powered when the ignition is turned on. It should only take a few hours to figure it out and get it hooked up well. A toggle switch on the dash may be the best so you can close the flap back down when the cops get around ;)

before each and everything, "Artsy" i'd like so that you could come into my dealership and question me to take a 650 living house in one day, your fortunate to get a testcontinual. What are you smoking? as for the question. the answer is the BMW. The 650 is a procedures more desirable to any vette, which incorporates the Z06. in spite of the indisputable fact that the vette ought to carry out better, the BMW is in an completely distinct type. BMW has mastered the artwork of blending primary drivability and international type dealing with. The Corvette is astounding, yet no longer even on the point of the 650cic.

I'm not an expert on the new ZO6, but odds are it is there for a reason. There is something called exhaust backpressure, if it isn't controlled correctly your engine will not perform as designed. Chances are it should stay there, any performance shop will be able to give you a better idea. There are always ways around it.

Leave it alone. The whole neighborhood doesn't want to hear your car. Besides if you make it too loud you will be pulled over.
