IVE OFTEN WONDERED THIS MYSELF.
What you say makes sense - I think it can partly be due to irresposibility. However, I also think that this irresposibility has developed our nation into a welfare state as well. People tend to learn from their parents - and poor people learn that you can make more momey from the welfare system the more children you have.
What concerns me is that the intelligent people ARENT procreating, or at least arent procreating enough to keep up with the "less fortunate"/uneducated/unintelligent/moronic people. that means earth will surely be inherited by the meek - the meek minded that is.

Irresponsibility...could be a factor...but in some cases the sad fact is that they intentionally have more children so they are allotted more government & state assistance...I a firm believer in choice determining circumstance...Poverty in America is a choice...because there are plenty of jobs to be had ....the real question is why to people choose to live off tax payers money rather than work in a chicken factory or a fast food resturant?
I suspect it simply put... just pure plain laziness....
Birth control isn't the reason ... it is provided free at all DHS offices...along with family planning and sexual education classes

You are an idiot. How dare you blame people for wanting to raise up children. I am so tired of people justifying a class system while the wealthy make money off the backs of the poor. There is so much discrimination against the poor and the homeless. There is also a desperate need to help improve health care, social stability, peace, prosperity, literacy, etc. in Third World countries.

They have more children because they have less education--statistics say the better educated you are in America the fewer children you have.
They have more children because birth control methods require knowledge about them and some money to buy them.
They have more children because poorer people are more apt to be religious and some religions do not approve of birth control and many religions are against abortion.
They have more children because they have more time on their hands and less opportunity for other recreation so they breed.
They have more children because they are more likely to lose a child while that child is young because of low birthweight, less knowledge about protecting them (like from SIDS), and later because they cannot afford child care. So the child is more likely to be injured, sick or killed and later yet the child is more likely to be killed in their less safe neighborhoods or to succumb to drug addiction.
And of course the DUBYA crowd (and yes I think I saw a big W in the poster's Avatar space) would point to the number of children the poor have while making sure the conditions that keep them underemployed, underfed, and ignorant stay in place. This, of course, leads to yet more children, assuring that corporate America has plenty of burger flippers to work in the fast food restaurants that feed these people unhealthy food and which make big profits on them.
In short its the DUBYA crowd that assures we have a large underclass to make sure that DUBYA and friends can lead a life of luxury!
Glad you asked, so I cold hold a mirror up to your collective face you Bushie! While America sinks, you guys are fiddling.

That is because these people cannot afford to go out for entertainment. When there is more time to spend at home, a couple have more time together. There is also the fact they may not be able to afford some types of birth control affordable to wealthier people.

That is a falsehood. Take a look at the census data from 2000 and you will see an equal spread of the numbers of offspring across all income levels.

Two things connected to poverty are education and health care or lack there of. The result is more babies for the poor.

maybe it's the human condition.
Poverty changes your outlook on life. You do things to live the moment versus planning for the future. The problem is very universal.
Poor people focus their lives on relationships. Rich people on their goals and dreams.

Anyone will tell you that the two quickest ways to go broke are to buy a house or have kids. Except that you can sell the house and not be broke any more...

Take a sociology class. Most of the patterns you see are because of socioligical forces, not inherent human nature.
Also, they have less to do, less entertainment etc.
