Yeah you can play most songs on 61 keys but I say get the full 88! Especially if you want to join a band someday. You never know when you might need those extra 27 keys! :)
Piano rocks!

Hey there,
I have a 61 key keyboard and I've never been limited to playing any songs. Every one I know are playable on a 61 key.
Hope this helps!

It will be enough for beginning, but only if you're not going to take it seriously (As in career wise). Yes, it's possible to get on with a small keyboard and then later on move up to a bigger one and still take it seriously as music student/career, I've managed that. But that would require a lot of hard work and catching up when you finally move to a bigger keyboard. There will be pieces that will extend past the 61 keys but I'm sure there's many within the limit! Best of luck.

yes 61 keys is nice for fast setup and all that but it is a bother because I like playing octaves in the base to cover the base line and 61 note keyboards you do not have that. full 88 keys!!! yea that is style!

I bet you can play 99% of pop stuff on 61 keys - classical stuff doesn't go to the extreme end of 88 all that much

I have a 61 keys--yes you can play songs--but professionally???m I would reccommend more for quality purposes--you need the extra keys for your bass end

Have you ever played the song "Dizzy Fingers"? It's a lot of fun to play and just one of many songs that require all eight octaves. Good luck.

yes, yes, and yes. And, if you join a band you have to tote the thing around, and it will weigh less than 80 keys.
