I know this question is directed at guys but...well, I wanna play too! :)
I enjoy playing games with my husband. Especially fighting games, Soul Calibur is one of our faves to play against each other. He has to practice in fight games, and I just pick it up and go. So at first I kick his ***, until he learns all the special moves, then he gets a lot of smacks on the arms from me but he never just lets me win cos he knows I hate that. Action RPGs like Baldur's Gate we play together...there's always someone yelling at the other person to start moving this way or that because the other one's stuck somewhere XD but it's fun.

No. I don't think girls enjoy outward competition as much as guys do, probably because they are even more competitive than men and can't handle losing as easily. This is a function of insecurity. Many women experience drops in self-confidence as a result of failure, and so they avoid situations in which failure is a possibility.

I am generalizing like crazy here, but work with me.

Guys have a broader social safety net for failure (they are probably judged less by their friends, for one thing). So when guys fail, the consequences aren't as severe. This is especially true if you believe those who say women are discriminated against in the workplace. Women are fighting an uphill battle for approval and equality, so they can't afford to fail. This endless pressure of competition might turn them off from video games as well.

In sum: Women are not anti-competitive; in fact, the reverse is usually true. Women in general tend to shy away from unnecessary competition because of their combination of competitiveness and insecurity. Very self-assured women would be the most likely to play video games.
