When I was younger I gave too much credit to other people and would be defeated if they told me I couldn't "do something." I am thankful for aging because I no longer can be so easily pushed around. I have changed a huge part of my life recently and not that anyone was discouraging me, but I kept hearing echoes in my own head that said I couldn't achieve or accomplish what I set out to do. Well I showed those damned voices! I continue to amaze myself pushing limits.

I learned never to allow others to define who I am. Sure they have their definition, but that's just how they see me on the outside. On the inside it's my world and I'm in the drivers seat, people are no longer allowed to shake me from my path!

Depending on what it is, but the curiosity and desire for a sense of control over one's life can be overwhelming.

An example? My mom told me I couldn't date until I get married, so I used to sneak out to date boys. Same with makeups and highheels.

For me, it was alwasy best when people explained why something can't be done (i.e., cause and effect type of things) instead of "thou shalt obey" method, and this is true for most teens and adults.

of course it does.. its like telling a child not to touch the stove when its on... its either being hard-headed or its to prove to the other person you can do it..

now, IF this is in a positive way.. meaning.. someone says you can't do something that won't hurt you or anyone else.. I say go for it... who says you can't? besides that makes it all worth doing... proving the other person wrong.. right?

Yeah, when someone tells me I can't get a date with that gorgeous twenty - something standing alone over there in the corner, I prove them wrong everytime!

Absolutely, the other day at work i noticed an icon that wasnt there the day before and i asked what it was and they said "soandso put that on there and said not to touch it", well me being me i waited till everyone left and clicked on it, but it was nothing special, just numbers that i probably wasnt supposed to see, but it was the point that they said dont touch it and curiousity over took me.

Is it rebellion against authority figures? It's the only reason that I can think of for an adult to still have the tendencies to do what you're not supposed to do.

Sure, it's human nature. Like the story of Adam and Eve in the Bible. I think our elders were trying to tell us man's fatal flaw. . .

yeah, it does. i'm good at drawing but i don't like art lessons. (i like to educate myself more) so i don't draw as nice as i do at somewhere else. and when one of my friends says i can't draw what the teacher wants from me, i draw much better than i do at home. i think all the people are like that. isn't that right?

HELL YEAH!! I know my friend for sure has that problem lol. Her mom tells her "no henna". She puts henna on. "No makeup" she puts makeup on. "Don't climb that tree!". She climbs the tree. Quite funny actually. lol.
