I got into a wreck about two years ago. It was late at night and a had a couple (2) of beers but was not drunk. I refused the breathalyzer so I was arrested on DUI. By the time they tested me again later, I blew clear, so I only got a ticket for reckless operation. Now I'm coming up on a new job and wanted to know about background checks. Does the arrest for DUI show up, just the ticket, or both. Worried that some dickfuck cop ruined my future by trying to make me walk a straight line instead of bringing me to the hospital. Please only answer if you know exactly what businesses look into and if they are only afraid of felons.

Sounds like you were only charged with Reckless Operation so the DUI shouldn't be anywhere. You should be fine, I also think most companies are only worried about felons. Not misdemeanors.

Convictions definitely come up on standard background checks, so if you were actually convicted of DUI, that would really hurt. However, if you were charged and cited for reckless operation of a vehicle, that's a different story.

Of course it all depends on what job you're applying for. If you're applying for a job driving my company vehicle, I might do a more extensive background check to see if you've been convicted of anything, gotten tickets, etc.

If you're applying for a job in the office and won't be doing any driving, then this won't really hurt you at all.

You're asking a broad question here. A lot depends upon what state you're in. What job your applying for (is it a federal job or state job or private sector)?

Unless you're applying for a Federal job, or a state job that will require high security or a law enforcement position, chances are they won't look far enough into your background for a DUI.

The background check may look at all or some of your credit history, past job(s), schooling, felony, misdeamenor, sex offenses at the state and county level, address trace, FCRA complaint, bankrupt, lawsuits, income level, property ownership, criminal data base check (local, state, federal), auto ownership, NICS check, auto ownership check, medical backgroud (illness history, drug/alcohol abuse), and more.

Now if you're applying for say the FBI they'll probably do all of the above. If it's a private job, chances are they'll just do a basic criminal and sex offender check at the local county state and federal levels.

doesnt sound like you were ever charged with a dui, or you would have gone to court and paid fines out the a**, and did jail time, so it probably isnt on your record, but your ticket, will be on your driving record, if they dont look at that you should be fine

only the ticket will show up. only what you get charged for shows up. they accused you of a DUI but you got CHARGED with reckless driving.
