I miss the Chick 'n Stu days.

Chick was an incredible announcer... starting in the mid-80s, when I got a satellite dish, I was able to watch about 60-70 Laker games every year...I'd always try to find Hearn's broadcast... he was awesome... he was not a cheerleader by any means (in contract to Johnny Most of the Celtics, who was the biggest cheerleader ever, which made him more obnoxious than anything)... Chick would 'root' for the Lakers and get excited if they won, but he'd scold 'em the way he would his own kids if they played poorly.

One of the reasons Laker fans at that time were so 'quiet' during games was because a lot of 'em would bring their radios to the game in order to listen to Chick's 'simulcast'... Hearn invented the simulcast, the act of broadcasting via radio and TV at the same time... Some teams use one set of announcers for TV, another set of announcers for radio... Hearn did both at the same time...

It was Hearn who coined the phrase "slam dunk" (during Elgin Baylor's days as a Laker forward)...he also invented the phrases "air ball" "no harm no foul" and "the game's in the refrigerator, the door's closed, the lights are out, the butter's getting hard the eggs are cooling and the jello's gigglin'".

I always loved his "Bloooows the layup!" and a player being called for traveling by Hearn saying the player did the "bunny hop in the pea patch"

Plus, the guy never missed a game... he only missed two games in his first 40 or so years as the Lakers' announcer and did 3,338 games straight (from 1965 to 2001).

As a pure announcer, he was infinitely superior to Johnny Most, the long-time Celtics announcer... You had to be a Celtic fan to like Johnny Most, but everybody loved Chick...

Chick and Stu (Lantz) were great together... I also liked Chick with Keith Erickson, you could tell it was a blast for Keith to be working with the Legend.

Chick was unquestionably the greatest basketball announcer of all time.

Chick was the greatest NBA announcer of all time, and will NEVER be replaced. He was always correct with his assessments of players on the quart, and how they played together. All the Laker haters out there can go **** themselves, because he is the greatest announcer of all time and the Lakers are the best franchise in the history of the game.

I think anyone who is a laker fan does. Sunderland and Joel Meyers just do not do it for me.

Chick was greatness...i miss how he was just blunt about things, i loved the style he brought to his announcing. The man is still missed!

Yes. One of the best announcers in sports, ever, right up there with the great Vin Scully.
