not really, i didn't think much of people in general when i was younger, and i still don't. however, that does make the people i choose to be around more special to me in a way.

When I was younger I distrusted people, and posed the world as me vs. them. In fact, I was often not the trustworthy one in a given relationship, but I always was ready to blame others.
Now that I am grown up (which seems to have taken quite a while) I see that every other person is just like me inside. I have learned that rarely do people mean harm to others, they are just unconsciously behaving in what they perceive as their own interest.
And I have learned that with a little effort, you can bring the best out of others by always showing the best of yourself.
I'm sorry to read among these responses that many people have grown more distrustful over time. It seems unfortunate to lose ground in life...

I used to trust to the goodness of people more and expect that from them. I think I have a much more Miss Marple type view of people now and realize how very much everyone is capable of both good and evil. On the other hand I often felt more arrogant towards people when I was young, and I think I have more compassion for the weaknesses of others now, being more aware of my own.

I think the question should be how much have they CHANGED since I was younger. But answering your question in the way that you asked it. I am disappointed how life changes people.
If we're not on solid ground or have some sort of belief system, life hardens us and we are unable to cope with everyday things.
Then we start treating others badly.
A belief system at least gives you hope, and the ability to treat people differently,

Yes! My overall view of people has changed since I was younger.
I have discovered that people can be down right cruel. When I was younger,I knew people were cruel, but I figured they would change. Now I have discovered that people are cruel just to get what they want out of life no matter who they hurt, and it is not right.

I don't think they're inherently stupid and cruel anymore.
It's really fortuitous as to who gets to be the "good guys" vs the bad... and then the interpretation of either is never static. People are lead by ideas, the beliefs that cause them to act and make choices in their world.. And if certain beliefs/values/ideas are limited then so are choices, and new moralities develop. If you must feed your family and there is patently no work... is it morally wrong to go underground for work, selling drugs? To the high-and mighty... who haven't lived that life, they might say YES! .. but it is happenstance that they be where they are in safety, demonizing what they don't understand.
We are a linguistic emotional force. Of course ideology controls us. We need to understand people in their environments and expand the terms of our own to include everyone. Evil teachers and parents and nasty schoolchildren alike... we all deserve to be understood.

Good answer Farly! Where as when I was younger, I felt inferior to most people. As of today, I know a good amount of people are inferior to me. Due to their lack of common sense. Too bad they don't visit a highrise more often and fall off.

For awhile, I thought that people were inherently good, and just messed up sometimes.
Then I was convinced that people are inherently evil and there's no hope for them.
But then I worked in fast food for two years, and I became convinced that it's neither of those. Good and evil have nothing to do with it. People are just inherently stupid.

Of course, when I was younger, my world was full of younger people, now, my world is full of older and somewhat, wiser people. If we are given the privilege of years, we are also given the privilege of mental and spiritual growth.

Whereas I used to believe people were inherently good, now I believe that most people are overwhelmingly selfish.
