This is one of those situations where you have to be his parent and not his friend. Stay the course, keep him on the right track. You and he will be better for it. I hve had to sever my sons relationships with friends who were not good for him. They were not bad people, just people who make bad decisions.

You're only 1/2 way there. What you need to do is contact either the school (because most have a zero-tolerance policy for drug use these days) or contact the child's parents. This kid is on the road to self-destruction, and it's up to YOU as an adult to try to put a stop to it now...before something irreversible (like death) happens.

I hope you have also explained to your child why he cannot associate with his friend until he gets straightened out. Its hard enough being 12, let alone being banned from seeing someone.

Most of the time you can tell when someone is on drugs if you're looking for it. I guess there's no way to know for sure unless he takes a drug test. But I think if your son really wants to be his friend, you should get to know him and then decide how you feel about him. Or I'd only allow them to hang out together at your house where you can watch them. Because if the boy is doing drugs, then his parents obviously don't know and don't keep a good eye on him. They'd be better under your supervision if you decide that they can be friends.
