colleges have clubs for EVERYTHING especially if you go to a large school.
For sports there is Intramural sports
For academics there are honors clubs, societies and frats
For social there are frats and sororities
Goverment there is student goverment
Writting there is a school newspaper, plus usually other more off beat publications
There are bands and dance groups
Just look into it when you get to school, check out fliers posted around campus and you can find clubs for any hobby

You might want to consider greek life. You can make great friends.
