the easiest way is to use a photo editinng program (if you dont have one xnview is free, powerful, and fast) and open each picture, choose save as, and adjust the qualiy slider. A simpler way is to upload them to photobucket, which will automatically rezise them to be 1mb. However u must sign up for an account, which is free.

There are many ways to shrink your pictures, but the way I do it is using the Paint program. It's very simple and you don't have to download anything.

- First, right click on your image's file and select Open with --> Paint. The file will open in the Paint program.

- From the menu options, select Image --> Stretch/Skew (or just click Ctrl + W). ( A small window will open.)

- In the Stretch option, to shrink the picture make the horizontal and vertical numbers less than 100%. (To expand, make the numbers greater than 100%). Usually shrinking them to 75% to 85% is enough to make the pictures small enough. (Make sure that you shrink the horizontal and vertical by the same amount to maintiain it's current size ratio). Click OK when finished.

- Click File on the menu and select Save As...and save your resized image as a new file.

- Voila! You are finished.

Irfanview is free & does a great job.

You can get it here - http://www.download.com/IrfanView/3000-2192_4-10491149.html?tag=lst-0-1

You can resize or convert them from one format to another. It is very intuitive and is ideal for what you need.
