Pink Slips are ownership papers. So when someone says the're racing for pinks they mean they're racing for the car.

i think it refers to pink slips, which were owners cards or titles to their cars, in those days they used to race for pink slips, and the winner kept the losers car, any way, that's what i figured it meant, i watched a lot of car movies
