When I click on a link to download a file, how do I make it ask me if I want to save or open the file?

I'm using internet explorer, and it used to ask me if I wanted to save or open the file, but now it just automatically opens the file, how do I get it to go back to the way it was?

in internet explorer right click the link and click on "save target as"

in netscape hold down the SHIFT key and click on the link

It is most likely to be in the Options panel of Internet Explorer (Tools -> Options) and you change the download options. Or you could right click on the thing you wish to download, and click Save Target As.
