I don't really feel American, nor do i feel mexican. Parents are mexican, but i don't act mexican, at the same time i don't act american and i don't participate in the culture. i just live but i don't really do anything significant. More over, i'm called Mexican by americans as they think i don't speak english.. and sure i don't speak it like white people cause I'm shy and i never speak so my skills are loww loww. Spanish skills are even worse than english. chinese people when hearing me, they say i'm not American. Mexican people when hearing me, say i'm not mexican. What the heck am i?? Can a person be declared NON CULTURED, or NON CITIZEN, or what? If i say American, but people do'nt acknowledge it, then what's the point?

I've read your question and no comprehendo. Calling yourself an American is not enough in this country are any for citizenship. I don't care how fluently one speaks English are Spanish. Learning the native tongue of the homeland you choose is the responsibility of the citizen. All sovereign nations have laws that make you a citizen and native language. America doesn't choose us we choose America that is why we blend into the culture and take responsibility for our choice.

YOU ARE A MEXICAN-AMERICAN!!! Be proud of that. I have had ppl talk down to me and say things about my spanish or my dad. (He's full Apache) My mother is Mexican. My parents didnt teach me spanish when I was a kid, they thought it was more important to know English, because my mother didnt learn english until she was in 2nd grade and she was BORN HERE!! And my dad didnt know spanish. What do you think Mexican ppl are like? You said you dont act Mexican, what does that mean? What things in our culture do you not participate with? You make it sound as if youre interracial. I have cousins that are black/mexican, they feel like they dont fit in with the mexican ppl or the black ppl. But we are all family and thats what its all about. Let me know whats up if you wanna talk, but dont deny that you are Mexican-American!!! Be BROWN AND PROUD!!! And you are not TEJANO, unless your from TX. But thats more how youd describe music or food or clothes, not really ppl. There was a person who answered your question and said that you "should speak more engish at home/speak it more"? What the HELL? If you dont know spanish and you dont do "cultural mexican" things, you should learn more about our RAZA. If you ever have children, what if they wanna know more about their culture and they go to you, and you dont have a clue about it. Take a spanish class, go to mexican shops, our culture is EVERYWHERE!! Ppl think that Mexican(Americans) should look a certain way or do certain things. I guess they expect most of us to have burritos in our hands, speak spanish all the time(or have an accent) and have our "backs be wet". You know what Im saying? Anyways you can hit me up if you feel like talking.

You're whatever you feel like you are. If you don't feel more strongly about one than the other I guess Tejano would be a good description.
