I can't understand why movies are made and remade; like "Titanic" or "King Kong" etc. After reading an excellent book, I often think, why don't they make a movie on this story? Don't the movie directors read?

Some books might be very good read but difficult to adapt for the big screen. .e.g War of the Worlds.

Both Titanic and King Kong are highly successful films and yet you can't understand why these movies are remade? Hmm... 2 billion dollars is your answer!!

Hollywood is not in the business of creating timeless classics; if it happens their attitude is great but their biggest concern is making money, when so much investment is at stake, even a small film these days costs $10 million and so it only natural for investors to want make something from it.

I agree that these remakes of classics should be reserved for college projects and kept the heck out of the theaters ... King Kong, Flight of the Phoenix, Deep Blue ... these are films that didn't need to be redone, because they were close to perfect the first time.
If I could see any book made into a film (that hasn't already been done very well), I would like to see Jack Whyte's Camulud series (The Skystone, the Singing Sword, etc.) done as a series of three or four films. Realistic settings, gripping plots, and human-scale action would make these great.

I absolutely LOVE a book called "Go Ask Alice"! I would love to see a movie on it and I've heard there is but I looked it up at Hastings and only found the book, there are no records of a film on that story. I reccommend that you and everyone you know reads it because it is awesome and sad and a TRUE story! I love true stories.

I'm usually sad, when the movie comes out for a book I like because they change stuff. I liked the book for a reason and even the little stuff irritates me. I feel like the people didn't even read the book.

Either Patricia Cornwell's series of books about forensic pathologist/coroner Kay Scarpetta for adults, or for the kids the "Fudge" series of books by Judy Bloom....I think the "Fudge" movies would be a hit! Infact I mentioned it to my husband about a week ago and said I should try writing a script and see what steps to take next.

I think that a movie should definitly be made fom the book, 'Lost Boys' by Orson Scott Card. Another great book that a movie should be made from is the book, 'Digital Fortress' by Dan Brown.
