During the rock era this only happened once. This record climbed the Billboard Hot 100 all the way to #1. Then it dropped completely off the charts. A few months later it reappeared (exact same song, artist and version) on the charts and climbed all the way to #1 again.

What was the name of the song and the artist?

And if you really want to show off, what specific events caused this to happen?

Good luck!

The song is "The Twist", by Chubby Checker. It went to No. 1 on 9/19/60 for one week, then returned to the top on 1/13/62.

The reason? Because of the dance "craze" created by the twist, and subsequent follow up songs (Pony Time, Let’s Twist Again, and others), the original recording was re-released in '62, and shot right back to the top!

Excellent question I just wish I had an answer for you. My guess would be a Buddy Holly song.
