There was an earlier post. A person said a customer told her that she pays her paycheck. The person posting replied by saying, Uhhhhh No. Is it fair to customers, that they are being mistreated by employees. They could take their money elsewhere. Do you agree with the comment above that customers not directly supplying the paycheck. What is wrong with letting the customer being right all the time, but yet getting there business. GM decided to not care for their customers by purposely selling bad product. Now, they need their customers to come back, but noone is responding. Do you think there are limits for the customer. I hate it when companies complain when customers complain about things and want money back or replacement.

The customer most certainly does provide the paycheck. If a business has no customers, guess what - there is no need for employees and therefore no paycheck. The customer most certainly is always right, whether the flaw in the product purchased is an actual flaw or is one of perception in the mind of the customer. If the owners/managers of a business wish to retain their customer base they will do whatever is necessary to keep their customers satisfied.

really it depends on the complaint. if it is a defective product the customer has every right to want and ask and expect their money back. your customers are your business and should be treated with the highest respect. It is correct that the customer pays your paycheck because without the customers money and business there would be no business for you to work at. Dont get me wrong there is something wrong with customers being rude and acting like they own the place and that their money is the only source of income to the place however you have to remember bad publicity gets around much faster than good publicity and the bad always seems to stick in peoples minds much more than the good.

Yes, I do think customer service is overrated. The only reason why people say that they pay for the employees' paycheques is because they need to make themselves feel better by bullying others.

I've been in customer service at a very young age (I've since moved on to better things) starting with mcdonalds and I can tell you that people are rude and insensitive to employees because they want that feeling of being served in a butler-type way. But, I got news for you. Without people out there doing these "customer service" jobs, the world would stop. I have an infinite amount of respect for people who do this for a living. And always remember, the person you piss off at a restaurant are the ones touching your food.

Customer Service is what makes or breaks a company, but having a customer say I pay your paycheque is going too far. We treat our customer's fairly and sometimes they get a deal but if anyone of them ever told me that they paid my cheque, I would laugh in their face. That's just a rude comment probably coming from someone who is a biatch and had a crappy day.

Oh yeah and the little old saying "The Customer is Always Right" is a crock of sh&t. If a customer happens to swear at me on the phone, I hang up on them. My boss knows this too. I don't have to listen to them yelling and swearing, so no the customer is not always right. I agree you need excellent customer service to keep a business floating but that does not mean they can take advantage of your employees and be rude and mean.

I've had customer service positions in my previous jobs and I always took great pride in making the customer feel good, right, happy, etc. I think that a lot of people today do not provide good customer service and it really bothers me. If I'm paying for something I want to be treated properly too.

I won't go as far as to be rude to a store employee, but if that store expects me to spend my money in their store, it better be a plesant experience. I have told cashiers that I'm sorry they are having a bad day, but being rude to me isn't going to solve it. If an employee is rude to me, if the product is shoddy, or even if the store is in less than satisfactory condition, I do not tolerate it. I won't shop or eat there anymore. If I want to go back, I will either see a manager, make a call, or write a letter. If there is not a resolution to my satisfaction, I do not return.
I don't think customer service is over-rated, I think it's half-dead.

some customers want to be right on things they absolutely know they are wrong on. like when they pay a bill on the 5th of the month but it was due on the 1st. they need to take responsibility for their actions
