~Can you handle the responsibility of keeping track of you minutes, and paying for you phone bill?

Because they think that a child should not need one. Is a child so important that they need to keep in touch with their friends at all times?

One of my kids has a cell phone, and can only use it for emergency purposes. Not to chat with friends, or play games, or download ring tones. God forbid something ever happens, my child can contact me. I think that is the only reason a child should have a cell...that and for those children that attend after school functions and need to contact parents for a ride, or other important reasons.

Also, a lot of kids I have seen use them in public and sometimes make a nuisance of themselves. Loud obnoxious ring tones, loud talking, bad language...ringing phones in places that people go to for quiet. (not all kids do this - but I have seen some) An example is a group of girls talking to a friend on speaker phone, using obscene language in a restaurant, in front of everyone there, including small children. A few bad kids ruin it for everyone.

Because adults didn't have cell phones when they were that age. They didn't exist yet. They think, "If I survived, you can too."

Plus, they're expensive and I can think of a few 12-16 year olds I know that would lose their head if it weren't attached.

It isn't the age of the people who have the cell phones, it's the manners. Be considerate of the people around you when you pick up the phone and your problem will go away.

i don't think kids that age shouldn't have one cause its a good idea once they start going out into the real world. i do believe it should be pre-paid so they don't abuse the minutes.

giving most kids that age a phone where minutes are not regulated is like handing them a credit card. at that age most don't know what the value of the dollar is yet.
