check jcrew.com. they have great and simple dresses in many colors and styles. they are nice because they are simple and can be easily accessorized. most hit about midcalf and are very wedding appropriate. they carry cotton, linen, silk, and some wool dresses. also the dresses come in tons of sizes!
a lot of their summer dresses are on sale now, so now would be a great time to buy.
they were even featured on the today show.
if you don't find anything at J.Crew, try CK Bradley (ckbradley.com), or Lilly Pulitzer (lillypulitzer.com, then click on the "where to buy" link and there are lots of lilly pulitzer sites to choose from)!
i hope this helps

a nice sheath dress is alway appropriate... no spaghetti straps! that's a little too promlike. wide straps, darts in the bodice for a nice fit around the waist and hips but not too tight... you'll be sitting a lot... mid calf is perfect with strappy shoes. avoid a dress with sequins or flashyness, the bride is the star of the show ... if you're familiar with the bride find out her wedding colors and try not to wear those colors... you don't want to look like part of the decor.

Boston tends to be (overall) a bit on the conservative side. So I recommend anything classy looking and modest. J Crew has some fabulous party dresses that are still classic looking. I would recommend anything navy blue and white or a solid print... it still will be summer, so feel free to choose a fun color, but don't go crazy with anything too bright.
For a nice accessory to your outfit, check out www.breezybeachwear.com. They have great gift ideas for the bride as well. Have a great time!

go to bluefly.com or nordstrom.com
they have some really great dresses. Either go cocktail or evening. something sophisticated, but simple and sexy.
i have a wedding to go to in early August and I got two dresses from BCBG for the event, one for day and one for night. They're both made out of chiffeon and silk. It's light and it flows. I think this material works best for any body type and it feels comfortable too, specially in the summer time.

I nice simple dress would be perfect. Not too flashy and not too cheap looking. Take a friend with you shopping that has gone to a wedding, I'm sure that will help.

wear a dress thats it's not too short but it's not too large. and because its in summer you can go with a dress in which you will feel fresh and it's confortable but at the same time it's for a wedding. I hope that help you decide.

try a tea-length (mid-calf), light airy dress for summer in pastel colors. lace and eyelet patterns are appropriate for weddings. if you want a more elegant look, pick out fabrics such as satin or taffeta.

nooo thats purely no longer ideal. it truly is purely too darkish for a summer wedding ceremony and also you pick to blend in and let the interest bypass to the proper bride and under no circumstances stick out like a start thumb. bypass with mild blues, pinks, yellows... yet also no longer white. it is reserved for the Mrs. to be

mid calf is good. try a halter top dress in a light, flowy material. nice and sophistcated but also pretty. pair with dangly earrings, cute heels, and a matching clutch. take a wrap or shrug in case it gets chilly.

Some don'ts, it not good to wear black, white or red to a wedding (at least not flashy red). Black because it's for funerals (doesn't really apply to men's suits). White because it competes with the bride (this does apply to men's suit's :)
